The Early Days

Welcome to Waterloo Farm and Babbelkous, where history, heritage, and hospitality converge to create a truly unique experience. While much of what I know is pieced together from tales shared by those who've crossed my path, I'll do my best to shed some light on the rich tapestry of this place.

Waterloo Farm has seen its fair share of transformations over the years. From its humble beginnings as a small dairy farm in the mid-20th century to its stint as the first organic farm in Suffolk, each chapter has left its mark on the land. Despite setbacks and changes in ownership, the spirit of resilience has endured, ultimately leading to its revitalization in recent years.

Broadening the Farms Ecology

One of our latest endeavours is the creation of four inter-connecting ponds (or mere’s) that are designed not only for practical purposes but also to enhance the farm's environmental and ecological sustainability. As our weather patterns become increasingly unpredictable, capturing rainwater has become imperative, providing a habitat for diverse wildlife while mitigating flooding downstream.

Additionally, we've undertaken ambitious projects such as the construction of what we believe to be the world's largest hugelbeds structure, furthering our commitment to sustainable agriculture and environmental education.

A Moment of Change

In 2015, fate intervened, and I found myself the proud owner of Waterloo Farm, thanks in part to a serendipitous encounter with Ed Sheeran's mother (but that's a story for another time). Inspired to breathe new life into this historic property, I embarked on a journey to rebuild and reimagine Waterloo Farm as both a home and a sanctuary.

A Stunning Contemporary Farmhouse

As for Babbelkous, our charming abode nestled within the farm, it reflects the ever-evolving landscape of Waterloo Farm. Designed to blend seamlessly with its surroundings, the house pays homage to the organic nature of farms, with structures that appear as though they've grown organically over time.

Step inside, and you'll find a space that effortlessly marries modern design with rustic charm. The brick barn, reminiscent of its 19th-century predecessor, now houses the kitchen, while the Dutch barn, refurbished with a contemporary twist, stands as a testament to the farm's evolving identity.

Effortless Reconnection

With its open-plan layout and thoughtfully curated spaces, Babbelkous offers a sanctuary where every corner reveals breath-taking views of the Suffolk countryside. Whether you're gathered around the kitchen island or lounging in the living area, each moment promises to be memorable.

We invite you to make yourself at home and immerse yourself in the tranquillity of Waterloo Farm and Babbelkous. Below, you'll find details on the key features of the house, ensuring your stay is as enjoyable as it is enriching.
